“Trickle Down” is based on “We Are The 99%”, with the chant hidden in the bass and drums, because the 99% are the foundations of our world, but get the least credit. When the groove kicks in it becomes the rat race, a representation of how we are taught to believe that if we work hard we will get what we deserve. Unfortunately, there are many unpleasant factors involved; socio-economic background, race, gender, privilege, debt, luck and more all play an inexorable role. The melody switches between two divisions of the beat, creating the stunted forward momentum of working hard to catch up to something imaginary. We move through resistance of the structure put in place to hold us back, and the air feels like syrup.
